Authors of this article analyze the potential and the role of social diagnosis as a function of social management, social planning and social projecting as its major components in forming of a social-productive environment and harmonizing in interests of different social subjects, especially the creative class that has the greatest potential. The traditional social management is characterized by stabilizing and regulating functions. The present of social diagnosis is weak by reason of conjuncture of managerial solutions and dominance of «crisis management» professionalism. To increase the role of social diagnosis as a condition for conversion into creative management it is necessary to include a widespread social expertise into social influence system and, above all, to actualize and present management as a choice of social development alternatives. The research has the following summary: first, the role of social diagnosis in creative management is objectively increasing, as it is the most reliable method of searching of optimal social development options; second, social diagnosis is a tool to influence on social processes and a way to change the management system itself; third, society demanding the construction of its vision of the future should rely on actual development trends; forth, creative management can help in diagnosing on the basis of social moods changes and the whole set of actual social development sources and trends.

Key words:social diagnosis; creative management; creative class; social projection; social management; society; prediction.
